Because that’s what the Easy Migrator is designed to help you do.

Here’s how it works…

When you run the Easy Migrator, you first choose the operating system you want to upgrade to.

It then scans your computer and lists all the new drivers you’ll need when you install Windows 7.

You can then download them and copy them to a CD or USB drive and they’re ready to install when you upgrade.

Oh yeah… you can also use it to downgrade or re-install your operating system.

So how do you get it?

It comes as standard with the latest version of Driver Detective (version 6.4.3).

Well guess what? It just got a lot easier, thanks to Driver Detective’s Easy Migrator tool.

Here’s how it works…

Step 1 — Choose your new operating system

Start Driver Detective and click EZ Migrator on the main menu.

Now click on the drop-down menu and select the operating system you’re upgrading to.

I’ve chosen the new Windows® 7 operating system.

Click Next.

Step 2 — Choose the new drivers to download

Driver Detective will now list the drivers you need to upgrade.

They’re all checked by default, so uncheck any you don’t want to download.

Click Next.

Driver Detective will now download your new drivers.

It may take a few minutes if you have a few to download.

Click Next when your drivers have finished downloading.

Step 3 — Choose a backup folder or CD

Choose a drive and folder to save your downloaded drivers to.

I’m saving it to my slave drive.

You can also burn your drivers to a CD if you like.

Click Finish.

Driver Detective will now copy your drivers to the backup folder or CD.

Click Close when it’s finished.

Step 4 — Check your backup folder

If you check your backup folder, you should see your downloaded drivers.

Your new drivers are now ready to install when you upgrade Windows.

And that’s it. Done.

Oh yeah… you can also use the Easy Migrator tool to downgrade or re-install your operating system.

So if you ever need to re-install any drivers, you don’t have to bother downloading them again.

Here’s how you do it…

Step 1 — Select the drivers to back up

Start Driver Detective and click History on the main menu.

Check (tick) all the drivers you want to back up.

Then click Backup Selected at the bottom left of the screen.

This will launch the Driver Backup Wizard.

Click Next to continue.

Step 2 — Choose a backup location

This can be your hard drive, a USB drive, or a CD/DVD.

I’ve chosen my slave (internal backup) hard drive.

Click Finish.

Step 3 — Creating the backup

Driver Detective will now copy the drivers to your backup folder.

Click Close once the back up is complete.

Step 4 — Check your backup

Go to the backup folder and check your drivers are there.

And that’s it. Done.

Here’s how you do it…

Step 1 — Create a system restore point

This step is optional … but highly recommended.

If a new driver doesn’t work as expected, you can revert to your previous settings with a few mouse clicks.

Check out Create a system restore point before installing drivers if you’re unsure how to do it.

Step 2 — Scan for new drivers

Start Driver Detective and click Scan Now.

It only took 11 seconds to scan my computer, so you shouldn’t have to wait long.

Step 3 — Choose a driver to update

To make the scan results easier to read you can view just the out of date drivers. Click the dropdown menu and select out of date.

Choose a driver to update and click the floppy disc icon to download the updated version.

I’m going to update my keyboard driver.

Step 4 — Download your new driver

Some driver files can be huge, so it may take a few minutes to download your new driver.

Click Open once your driver has downloaded.

Step 5 — Install your new driver

Driver Detective will now launch the driver’s installer, or…

If the driver is zipped (compressed or archived) it will launch your unzip utility.

After the driver’s unzipped, double click on the installer to install it.

(Check out my resources page if you don’t have an unzip utility.)

Also…

If you download a driver but don’t install it immediately, you can install it at a later time by clicking History on the main menu.

Just click on the driver name and click Open to install it.

Step 6 — Restart your computer

Restart your computer when prompted. Or continue to install more drivers. It’s up to you.

And that’s it. Done.
