Here’s how you do it…

Step 1 — Choose your operating system

Start Driver Genius and click Update Drivers on the main menu.

Now select your operating system from the list.

Click Next.

Step 2 — Scan for driver updates

Driver Genius will now scan your computer for outdated drivers.

The scan only takes a minute or so.

Step 3 — Choose a driver to update

All out-of-date drivers are selected by default, so uncheck the ones you don’t want to update.

I’m going to update my keyboard driver.

Step 4 — Download your new driver

If there’s more than one driver in the download manager, click the one you want to download to select it.

Click Download.

Driver Genius will now connect to the driver download centre and download your new driver.

You’ll get a Windows taskbar pop up message when the driver download is complete.

Step 5 — Install your new driver

Click Install.

You will now get a message asking if you want to back up your drivers.

I recommend you do back up your drivers, so click Yes and follow the instructions (check out How to back up your drivers with Driver Genius to see how it’s done).

After backing up your drivers, click Install again, this time click No when you get the “back up your current drivers” message.

Driver Genius will launch your new driver’s installer.

Follow the driver installer’s instructions to install it. This ususally involves clicking “OK” a few times.

Step 6 — Restart your computer

You can now restart your computer when prompted, or you can update more drivers. It’s up to you.

And that’s it. Done.

Driver Genius makes uninstalling drivers a simple process.

Here’s how you do it…

Step 1 — Choose a driver to uninstall

Start Driver Genius and click Uninstall Driver on the main menu.

Then select the driver you want to uninstall.

I’m going to uninstall my modem driver.

Click Next.

Step 2 — Confirm driver uninstall

You’ll now get a message asking if you’re sure you want to uninstall the driver.

Click Yes.

Step 3 — Finish the driver uninstall process

After a few seconds you’ll get a screen saying the driver has been uninstalled.

Click Finish.

And that’s it. Done.

Here’s how you do it…

Step 1 — Scan your drivers

Start Driver Genius and click Backup Drivers on the main menu.

Driver Genius will now scan your computer and gather the details of your drivers.

Step 2 — Choose which drivers to back up

You can back up currently used drivers, original Windows drivers, and disconnected device drivers.

They’re all selected by default, so unless there are drivers you don’t want to back up, leave it as it is.

Click Next.

Step 3 — Choose the backup type and location

Driver Genius gives you four backup types.

I’ve chosen the default option, which copies the drivers to a folder.

The default backup folder is C:\Documents and Settings\[Your Windows Username]\My Documents\DriverGenius\Backup. Click Browse if you want to save your drivers somewhere else.

I’ve selected a folder on my backup hard drive.

Click Next.

Step 4 — Start the backup

Driver Genius will now back up your drivers.

It took about 20 minutes on my computer, so plenty of time to make a cup of tea, or pour a cold beer…

Click Finish when it’s done.

Step 5 — Check your backup

Go to your backup folder and check the drivers are there.

And that’s it. Done.

A quicker way is to install all your drivers at once with a driver auto-installer.

Driver Genius makes creating a driver auto-installer a simple process.

Here’s how you do it…

Step 1 — Scan your PC for drivers

Start Driver Genius and click Backup Drivers on the main menu.

Driver Genius will now scan your PC to gather information about your drivers.

Step 2 — Choose which drivers to back up

You have to option to back up your currently used drivers, original Windows drivers, and disconnected device drivers.

They’re all selected by default, leave it as it is, unless there are drivers you don’t want to back up.

Click Next.

Step 3 — Choose the backup type and location

Driver Genius gives you four backup types.

The option you want is Auto-Installer Archive.

The driver auto-installer will be saved to the default backup folder C:\Documents and Settings\[Your Windows Username]\My Documents\DriverGenius\Backup.

Click Browse if you want to save the auto-installer somewhere else.

I’m saving it to a folder on my backup hard drive.

Click Next.

Step 4 — Start the backup

Driver Genius will now create the driver auto-installer.

This process took about 20 minutes on my computer.

Click Finish when it’s done.

Step 5 — Check your auto-installer

Go to your backup folder.

Double click on the auto-installer to launch it and you should see something like this:

And that’s it. Done.

Note: You have to have backed up your drivers before you can restore them.

Here’s how you do it…

Step 1 — Select your backup folder

Start Driver Genius and click Restore Drivers on the main menu.

On the “Specify the location of your driver backup files” screen, click on the folder you backed up your drivers to.

If you want to restore drivers from a different folder, click on Browse my computer for drivers backup.

Then click Browse and select your backup folder.

I backed up my drivers to a folder on my backup hard drive.

Click Next.

Step 2 — Select a driver to restore

The drivers are not checked by default, so select the one you want to restore.

I’m going to restore my modem driver.

Click Next.

Step 3 — Confirm driver restore

Next you’ll get a pop-up message asking you if want to restore your driver now.

Click Yes.

Step 4 — Restart your computer

After Driver Genius has restored your driver you’ll get a pop-up message saying you have to restart your computer for the restore process to take effect.

Click either Yes or No — it’s up to you.

And that’s it. Done.

And it only takes few simple steps to do.

Here’s how you do it…

Step 1 — Launch the driver auto-installer

Open My Computer (or wherever the folder is you saved the driver auto-installer to).

Double click the icon to launch it.

Step 2 — Select the driver to restore

All the drivers will be selected by default.

Uncheck all but the driver you want to restore.

I’m going to restore my modem driver.

Click Start Restore.

Step 3 — Restore your driver

You’ll now get a pop-up message asking if you want to restore the driver.

Click Yes to confirm.

The window will be greyed-out while your driver is restored.

After a few seconds the window will become active again.

Click Finish.

Step 4 — Restart your computer

You’ll now be prompted to restart your computer for the restore process to take effect.

It’s up to you whether you restart it now or later.

Click Yes or No — either way, the auto-installer will close.

And that’s it. Done.
